The Paper Seahorse

CINEMA SOCIAL
For Film Lovers, Analog Fans & the Cinematically Curious The Glow of Real Film. In Real Life.Think of this evening as a curated in-real-life experience. A three hour pop-up cinema party. Interesting and unusual short films, animations and music, followed by a feature film. But more. Intermissions to mingle, and time after the feature to connect with other discuss what you have seen.
Before streaming, before digital, there was the flicker of light through celluloid. 16mm Microcinema Night at The Paper Seahorse is an immersive experience bringing back the magic of real film projection in an intimate screening room where the whir of the projector becomes part of the show.
Film has a warmth and texture that screens can't quite capture: the grain, the glow, the small imperfections that remind you you're watching something physical and alive. Settle in with fellow film lovers for an evening of curated shorts, animation and a feature presentation, shared the way cinema was meant to be experienced: together, in the dark.

This Month:
The Opening Act. The evening begins with a variety of shorts: music to set the mood, followed by a selection of vintage animation and short films.
Feature Presentation: David and Lisa (1962). Directed by Frank Perry, this small, independent black-and-white film became a surprise sensation and earned Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey) stars as David, a brilliant teenager living in a residential treatment center who cannot bear to be touched. There he meets Lisa (Janet Margolin), a young woman who speaks only in rhyme. As the two slowly find their way toward each other, the film becomes a tender, deeply human story about fear, trust, and the courage it takes to connect.
Decades before it was common for films to portray mental health with honesty and compassion David and Lisa did just that, and its warmth still feels remarkably fresh.

Pre-packaged local food, curated snacks, soft drinks, and mocktails are available at the concession.

Enjoy an afternoon of bookmaking with one of the earliest forms of bookbinding — The Coptic Stitch Binding. It's also one of the first basic bindings that bookmakers learn.
In this step-by-step workshop you will create your own Coptic Stitched Journal, from making the cover using handmade and printed papers, to folding your signatures to stitching your pages together. The exposed spine and hard cover create a beautiful space to hold your sketches, pressed flowers, special notes, favorite quotes and other treasures. We'll add an extra special touch with partial signature covers, allowing your cover design to continue throughout the inside of your journal.
When we're done, you'll take home your personal journal, a perfect place for you personal thoughts and special notes.
All supplies are included with your choice to mixed media paper or drawing paper for your journal pages. No prior experience is needed.
