Car Rams Into Tampa Building; Driver Who Caused Crash Fled

The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a Toyota Corolla, which struck a Mazda 3, causing it to crash into a building.

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a Toyota Corolla, which struck a Mazda 3 on 56th Street Friday morning, causing the Mazda to crash into a building and seriously injuring the driver. The driver of the Toyota then fled the scene.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 3:57 a.m., the Toyota was traveling south in the left turn lane of 56th Street approaching Chelsea Street while the Mazda 3 was heading north on 56th Street.

At the intersection, the Toyota turned into the path of the Mazda. The Mazda struck the front right of the Toyota, rotated in the northbound lane of 56th Street and then was propelled into the side of a building at 4301 Chelsea St.

The highway patrol said the Toyota was driven by a Black man with long hair and possible injuries to his face. Anyone with information is asked to contact by the highway patrol or Crime Stoppers at 813-558-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS.
