Centro Ybor Shooting Victim Identified

The 16-year-old remains in stable condition at a local hospital.

The Tampa Police Department has released the name of the person shot Sunday night outside of Centro Ybor. He is 16-year-old Shannon Montgomery.

The incident happened around 11:01 p.m. in the 1600 block of East 8th Avenue. Police say they received a call around 11 p.m. about a fight at Centro Ybor. As units were in route, they received a call about a shooting nearby at the corner of North 15th Street and East 8th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a teen “lying on the sidewalk with a large amount of blood under his head,” an email to media stated.

The boy had a gunshot wound to the head, but was conscious and able to talk to officers. Witnesses told police they saw a large number of teens running from the scene.

Montgomery is not cooperating with police, the email said, but it is believed the shooting was not random. It appears to be connected to an ongoing dispute between two groups, police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor wrote in the email.

McGregor said Montgomery’s injuries are not life threatening.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS(8477) or text “CSTB plus your tip” to 274637 (CRIMES). Tips that lead to an arrest might be eligible for a cash reward of $1,000.
