20th Anniversary Of 9/11 To Be Marked In Tampa With Ceremony
The keynote speaker will be Gen. Richard D. Clarke, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base.

TAMPA, FL — Gen. Richard D. Clarke, 12th commander of U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base, will be the keynote speaker at a 20th anniversary ceremony of the 9/11 terrorist attacks Saturday, Sept. 11.
The remembrance will take place at 9 a.m. at Tampa Fire Department Headquarters, 808 E. Zack St.

There will be an opening ceremony presented by the Tampa Fire Rescue Honor Guard. Fire Chief Barbara Tripp and Mayor Jane Castor will address the audience and introduce Clarke.
Prior to assuming command of USSOCOM, Clarke served as director for strategic plans and policy for the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.

His deployments include Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Joint Guardian in Macedonia, three deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, four deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and one deployment as the commander of the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command of Operation Inherent Resolve.

To represent the 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers who lost their lives that day, a somber procession of active and retired firefighters and law enforcement will pass by the seated guests and stage together for a Box 444 (end of watch) honor guard ceremony and dispatch transmission over Tampa Fire Rescue radio.
Seated guests are by invitation only. Mask use is encouraged.
