DeSantis, Rubio To Be In Tampa Wednesday For 'Keep Florida Free Tour'

TAMPA, FL — As part of the Republican Party of Florida's "Keep Florida Free Tour," Gov. Ron DeSantis, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and other Republican leaders will be at the TPepin Hospitality Centre, 4121 N 50th St., Tampa, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

However, instead of accolades, on Sunday DeSantis was greeted by students, teachers and parents in Miami, Sarasota and Ormond Beach protesting what they called DeSantis' "anti-woke education policies."

Protesters in Miami chanted outside the venue for hours, and inside one protester disrupted event, calling DeSantis a "tyrant and a coward."

During his visit to Ormond Beach, students with tape over their mouths carried a banner reading, "Governor DeSantis Stop Silencing Us."

The Don't Tread on Me youth chapter of the Florida chapter of the National Organization for Women said they felt impelled to protest in Sarasota because they feel DeSantis is a threat to their freedoms by mandating book bans, restricting what teachers can teach and not allowing women control over the own reproductive health.

“These brave students sent an important a message to DeSantis,” said Kat Duesterhaus, a board member of the Florida chapter of NOW. “Students want the freedom to learn, love and live. They won't be silent in protesting DeSantis’ hate or his attacks on freedom.”

Doors at the TPepin Hospitality Centre open at 5 p.m. Attendance is limited and all tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis.
