A 22-year-old man is dead following a brush with downed power lines in South Tampa Wednesday morning.
Tampa Fire Rescue’s Jason Penny said a 911 call came in around 10:30 a.m. about a possible electrocution behind a home at 3021 W. Fair Oaks Ave. Witnesses said they heard a loud boom and the victim went to investigate the sounds.
“According to witnesses, the victim went to a small space between a shed and a fence where power lines had fallen,” Penny wrote in the email.

When paramedics arrived, they could see Christopher Diehl, 22, on the ground, but couldn’t approach him because of the live power lines. TECO was called out to secure the lines.
Diehl was transported to Tampa General Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival, Penny wrote.
