How Swapna Fabbiano Built Carrollwood's New Full-Service Portrait Studio for Women

Carrollwood has a new women-centered creative space with the opening of Swapna Fabbiano Photography, a full-service portrait studio built around confidence, care, and the belief that every woman deserves to feel fully seen. After eight years of working from a home studio while balancing motherhood and a corporate career, photographer Swapna Fabbiano has opened her first dedicated studio on Dale Mabry, a moment so meaningful that she couldn't get through her own ribbon-cutting speech.

Her journey is striking. Fabbiano was originally on track for medicine, earning degrees in nutrition and public health before deciding not to attend medical school. "I went to school for biomedical sciences, then studied nutrition and public health in grad school. I was accepted to medical school, and I decided not to go," she said. That decision, she now believes, was the first sign she was meant for something else. When her first child was born, she picked up a camera, and what began as photographing neighbors for fun slowly turned into purpose. "People think photography is just knowing how to use a camera, but it's so much more than that," she said.

Her new studio reflects that philosophy. Fabbiano offers a fully curated experience that begins with a personal, in-home styling consultation. "One of the biggest things people worry about is what to wear. When I come into a client's home and we go through wardrobe together, that worry disappears," she said. Every session includes complimentary hair and makeup, guided posing, and a review of images that helps clients see their final artwork before it's ever printed. "I love setting my clients up to feel confident and beautiful before we've even picked up the camera," she said.

What sets her studio apart is the tangible artistry. Fabbiano designs custom albums and interior-design-level framing, then personally installs the finished pieces in her clients' homes. "Digital images just sit on a phone. Having something you can physically hold, page through, and pass down means so much more," she said. She also creates gallery walls and annual family albums so clients can build a collection over time. "Ten years from now, a family will have a shelf of these albums, each one holding a whole season of their life," she said.

With the studio now open, Fabbiano is expanding her branding and headshot work, especially for women entrepreneurs. "I've loved getting to know so many women and learning their stories," she said. "How special would it be to have your own branding session turned into a beautifully printed magazine?"

Her hope is that women see possibility in her story. "I've faced plenty of challenges along the way, and I've doubted myself more times than I can count," she said. "You don't have to have it all figured out. You just need the confidence to keep going."

Her work is shaped by her own journey through motherhood, fitness, and self-acceptance. "My body has changed since having kids, and I've had to work through my own relationship with that," she said. "Women carry so much, no matter our size or stage of life." That empathy fuels her mission. "I want every woman who sits in front of my camera to feel beautiful and celebrated, even if it's just for an afternoon."
