Ex-NFL Player Turns Self In On FL Domestic Battery Charge: Sheriff

TAMPA, FL — Former Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton, who was wanted on a domestic battery by strangulation charge for an incident earlier this month in the Tampa Bay area, turned himself in to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Sunday night, the agency said. The 29-year-old is accused of assaulting a woman March 7 in Lutz, Patch previously reported.

Sutton’s attorney contacted the sheriff's office March 25 to tell the agency that he planned to turn himself over to authorities in Tampa.

He arrived at the Orient Road Jail Sunday around 8:30 p.m., HCSO said.

Sutton signed a three-year, $33 million free-agent contract with the Lions last season. The team released him March 18 after the warrant was issued for his arrest, according to NFL.com.

"After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County. My thoughts are with this woman as she continues to heal from this man’s gruesome actions.”
