Fatal Shooting Jan. 3 Leads To Arrest Of Tampa Man Friday

A 20-year-old Tampa man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting Jan. 3.

TAMPA, FL — A 20-year-old Tampa man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting Jan. 3.

According to Tampa police, the victim was driving by the entrance of The Riviera apartments, at 8412 Rio Bravo Court near Riverhills Drive at 2:18 p.m. when he began exchanging gunfire with a man in another vehicle.

Tampa police arrived to find the victim lying next to a silver Nissan Altima with bullet holes in the driver's side. The victim was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds at the scene.

Several shell casings were found on the road and several more shell casings were found inside the Nissan. The investigation indicated that the victim was fired upon, and returned fire.

A witness said a red vehicle was driving behind the victim's car toward the exit of the apartment complex when it pulled alongside the victim's car and the passenger began firing at the victim's car.

Detectives were able to find surveillance video showing the red vehicle in the area several minutes before the shooting.

One surveillance camera captured video through the windshield of the passenger in the red vehicle who was identified as Xavier Felton.

He was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
