Father Arrested After 5 Children Found Unattended In Tampa Home: Sheriff

A man was arrested after deputies found his 3-year-old alone on a busy road and 4 other children unattended at a Tampa home, HCSO said.

TAMPA, FL — A 41-year-old Tampa man was arrested after deputies found five young children unattended at home after one of the children was discovered wandering barefoot along a busy road on Friday night, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded around 8:38 p.m. to N. 42nd Street near Hellenic Drive after a witness found a 3-year-old child walking alone along the road

Deputies located the child's home and found the front door open. Inside, there were four additional young children, who also were unattended, the sheriff’s office said.

The stove was also turned on and smoking inside the home, and the youngest children were wearing soiled diapers, deputies said.

Investigators determined the children's mother was at work and had left them in the care of their father, Glenn Jones, 41.

Jones was arrested after he returned to the home and was charged with five counts of child neglect.
