FBI Seeking Tampa Victims In Investment Fraud Case

TAMPA, FL — Authorities at the FBI are seeking potential Tampa victims who may be eligible for restitution in connection with an investment fraud and money laundering scheme.
According to the FBI, Matthew “Matt” Jess Thrash was recently indicted in the Eastern District of Texas on charges of federal violations of wire fraud and money laundering. The FBI believes he primarily targeted individuals between 2012 and 2024 through several fraudulent investment schemes.
These schemes included a fake sports management company, a fake sports memorabilia store, and the fraudulent sale of stock in cannabis dispensaries, FBI officials told KFOX-TV.

Besides Texas, the FBI believes Thrash's victims may also be located in Tampa; Las Vegas, Nevada; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Lake Charles, Louisiana.
"Individuals should not be embarrassed if they invested in one of his schemes," FBI Dallas Acting Special Agent in Charge P. J. O’Brien told KFOX. "We encourage you to come forward so that you can receive assistance and help us hold him accountable in a court of law."

Possible victims should submit this form through the FBI's website.
According to the agency, victims may be eligible for certain services, restitution, and rights under federal or state law.
