The governor's budget represents record funding for Florida's public schools and the highest per-student funding in the state's history.

FLORIDA — Florida's public school teachers will take home a bigger paycheck under Gov. Ron DeSantis' proposed 2022 education budget.
At a news conference Wednesday, the Republican governor said he intends to recommend an education budget that would include $600 million for teacher salaries, raising the minimum pay for public school teachers from $40,000 to $47,500 a year.
"Fortunately, in the state of Florida, we're in a very strong budget position," DeSantis said. "Our reserves are incredibly healthy given what people were projecting with COVID first hit. That's a reflection of the strength of Florida's economy. Our education budget is going to have a lot of wins for students, parents and teachers."
