FL State Guard Activated Ahead Of Strong Storm System: Gov. DeSantis
Gov. Ron DeSantis activated the Florida State Guard ahead of Tuesday's storms, which are expected to bring flooding, tornadoes to the state.
FLORIDA — With a strong low-pressure storm system moving into Florida Monday, the Florida State Guard has been activated “to prepare for any impacts,” Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The state guard, a volunteer agency, is separate from the Florida National Guard.
The worst of the weather — potentially heavy rains, strong winds, tornadoes and hail — will affect the Panhandle and Central Florida Monday night through Tuesday, the governor said.

The severe storms will likely cause flooding along the state’s West Coast, according to the National Weather Service’s Tampa Bay office.

“Residents should prepare for possible impacts and heed any warnings from officials,” DeSantis wrote.
People should ensure they have a way to receive updated weather warnings overnight, the Florida Division of Emergency Management posted on X.
The agency also recommends that residents secure any outdoor items and check their storm supplies.
