TAMPA, FL — The Florida Aquarium in Tampa welcomed the birth of a cownose stingray pup on Monday, an event that coincided with World Oceans Day.
The pup was born around 2 p.m. after its mother was in labor for a little over an hour.
This stingray pup is the third to be born at The Florida Aquarium in recent weeks. Named Bimini, it joins two other pups, Kitts and Nevis. All three of the rays are named after the geological regions in which they are found.

The Florida Aquarium has four more expectant stingray mothers that will likely give birth within the next month. Cownose stingrays can be pregnant for 10 to 12 months and usually have one to two pups at a time.
Bimini is doing well and will be moved into the stingray nursery with the other two pups in a few days, aquarium officials said.
