Here are the top five stories in Tampa today:
1. A Ruskin woman was killed Friday when gas tanks being hauled by a tractor-trailer truck fell off and landed on the car she was in, authorities said. The other passengers in the car survived with minor injuries. (Tampa Patch)
2. Hillsborough County Commissioner Gwen Myers, a Tampa democrat, will continue to serve District 3 after qualifying without opposition on Friday. She was first elected to the seat in a Special Election in 2020 following the retirement of former Commission Chair Les Miller. (Florida Politics)
3. A candidate for Hillsborough County School Board, Alysha "Aly Marie" Legge, said in a public forum that a recent Florida book ban was justified, and defended the state's attacks on "critical race theory" (CRT), despite little evidence of it being taught in public schools. 4. Claire Bridges, a model from St. Petersburg has a new outlook on life and a new perspective after nearly dying from COVID-19. She was at Tampa General Hospital for more than two months as she battled multiple illnesses and had both of her legs amputated. (WTSP)
5. Tampa Police said they found a deceased man in the driveway of a home in the 3600 block of North 53rd Street in Tampa just after midnight, according to a media release. An investigation is now underway. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times)

- Florida State Senator Janet Cruz joined several local officials on Friday morning to unveil a new historic marker honoring a lost cemetery. It marks more than 1,200 individuals buried, many Black and Cuban, in what once was College Hill Cemetery. (Florida Politics)
- A former candidate for Tampa City Council is reportedly linked to a Facebook account that a real estate development consultant says made defamatory statements about him. Jonathan Godwin of South Tampa is accused of using a false Facebook account to make statements about development consultant Stephen Michelini. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Business Journal)
- Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 20, North Highland Avenue will be closed from West Frierson Avenue to West Haya Street for wastewater and drinking water utility construction. This is part of the Southeast Seminole Heights Stormwater Improvement Project. (Twitter)
