Get the Scoop on Gasparilla Traffic

The Florida Department of Transportation offers a way to help motorist avoid long delays.

Tampa Bay area residents who want to enjoy smooth sailing on Gasparilla weekend can get an edge on traffic by taking advantage of the state’s 511 advisory system.

The Florida Department of Transportation’s 511 Traveler Information System provides up-to-date information on all of Florida’s major interstates, toll roads and metro road systems. Data is available on roads near the big Gasparilla event, such as Interstates 4, 275 and 75.

“With multiple events scheduled throughout the day, including a 3.8-mile parade of pirates, a street festival with entertainers and more, downtown Tampa likely will be a popular destination this weekend, and drivers should be prepared for increased congestion,” an email from FDOT stated.
