Here's What Hillsborough County Residents Are Reading

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — For anyone thinking that Netflix, Apple TV and TikTok videos have usurped reading as a favorite American pastime, the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library begs to differ.

Breaking all records, the library system reported more than one million digital checkouts during the first half of 2022, an increase of 8 percent from its previous record in the first half of 2020.

From Jan. 1 to June 15, library patrons borrowed a record 1,053,805 eBooks, audiobooks and digital magazines.

Since the library system began offering digital magazines in 2021, patrons are now downloading 44,200 digital titles a week through Libby app and OverDrive, according to the library system.

While eAudiobooks and eMagazines are popular among library customers, eBooks take the award for most-downloaded item.
