TAMPA, FL — The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County has issued a public health advisory for Davis Islands Beach due to high bacteria levels.
Swimming is not recommended, according to the officials.
Samples taken were above the threshold for enterococci bacteria that normally inhabit the intestinal tract of humans and animals, and may cause human disease, infections or rashes.

The presence of enteric bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution, which may come from stormwater runoff, pets and wildlife, and human sewage.
The beach will be re-sampled Thursday and, when sampling indicates bacteria is in a satisfactory range, the advisory will be lifted.
