Hillsborough County Sees Increase In Coronavirus Cases

Hillsborough County has seen a 181 percent increase in coronavirus cases over the past 14 days, according to data released Monday.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – Hillsborough County has seen a 181 percent increase in coronavirus cases over the past 14 days, according to data released Monday by the Department of Health.

Speaking at a meeting of the Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group, Dr. Douglas Holt from the Department of Health said the rolling 14-day average number of cases is 624, representing a 181 percent increase over the previous 14-day period. The rolling 14-day positivity rate is 20 percent.

As of Saturday, there have been 14,336 positive cases of COVID-19 in Hillsborough County, representing .96 percent of the county's population. More than 2,400 people have recovered from the disease, Holt said.

According to DOH data, the seven-day death rate per day is 2.57, which has remained flat since the previous seven-day period.

As far as hospitalizations are concerned, the rolling seven-day average is 348, a 36 percent increase from the previous seven days. Hospital bed occupancy has seen a three percent increase, up to 76 percent, over the previous seven-day period. ICU beds capacity is at 88 percent, a seven percent increase over the previous seven-day period.

Florida health officials reported 6,336 new cases of the coronavirus Monday as the mayor of the state's most populous county ordered a partial rollback of business reopenings following a holiday weekend where the state set an all-time record of 11,458 cases on the Fourth of July.
