Hillsborough Inmate Dies After Arrest

The 54-year-old, authorities say, died at Tampa General Hospital from issues related to preexisting conditions.

TAMPA, FL — A 54-year-old inmate in the custody of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office died from complications related to preexisting conditions, according to the agency.

Dwight Roach was initially arrested on May 7 on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges, the agency wrote in an email to media. While in jail, Roach received care for pre-existing conditions, the agency noted.

On Friday, the agency said Roach’s condition worsened and he was transported to Tampa General Hospital. Roach, the sheriff’s office said, died on Saturday.

He had a long history of arrests in Hillsborough County, dating back to 1995, jail records indicate.
