Hurricane Has State Preparing, Bracing, Rescuing, Cleaning Up: FL News

With an estimated $120 billion in damages, Hurricane Ian could set the record for the costliest hurricane to strike the United States.

FLORIDA — No surprise, Hurricane Ian dominated the news this week, making an unexpected eastern turn and making landfall in Lee County as a Category 4 hurricane, causing widespread destruction in Fort Meyers and on the Sanibel, Captiva and Pine islands. It then continued its swath of destruction across Central Florida before emerging in the Atlantic Ocean. Officials are reporting 21 fatalities with more expected, and damages estimated at $120 billion.
