Hurricane Irma: Here's The Latest Breakdown Of Central Florida Cellphone Outages

The Federal Communications Commission said Wednesday that 18.1 percent of cell sites in Florida were without service.

TAMPA, FL — Cellphone service is gradually returning to Florida four days after Hurricane Irma swept across the length of the state, downing trees and power lines in its path, according to the latest figures from the federal government.

The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday released a breakdown of cellphone outages by county in a status report on communications services. Overall, the agency said 18.1 percent of cell sites in Florida were out of service Wednesday, down from 24.6 percent Tuesday. That number was 5.3 percent in Georgia (down from 10.5 percent) and less than 1 percent in Alabama.

Hillsborough County

  • 87 cell sites were out, or 7.6 percent (down from 13.8 percent).

Polk County

  • 108 cell sites were out, or 22.5 percent (down from 30.1 percent).

Pinellas County

  • 101 cell sites were out, or 16.9 percent (down from 26.7 percent).

Pasco County

  • 46 cell sites were out, or 14.6 percent (down from 17.8 percent)

Manatee County

  • 15 cell sites were out, or 6.3 percent (down from 9.6 percent)

Sarasota County

  • 39 cell sites were out, or 16 percent (down from 27 percent)
