Identity of Man Found in Hillsborough River Released

The Tampa Police Department has released the identity of the man found dead in the Garrison Channel Thursday night.

Brian James Weiss, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A search for Weiss began around 4 p.m. when someone called local law enforcement to say they had seen a man swimming in the Hillsborough River, but had not seen him get out.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Tampa police, U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission all responded to the scene.

Weiss’ body was recovered around 5:15 p.m.

Weiss has no known current address.
