July 4 Weekend Weather: What to Expect

Tampa Bay area residents getting ready to celebrate America may want to keep an eye on the skies and dress for steamy conditions.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a typical summer weekend. That means highs in the 90s and thunderstorm chances daily. Here’s a day-by-day look at what forecasters expect over the long holiday weekend:

Friday

  • High temperature – Mid-90s in most parts of the Bay area
  • Low temperature – Upper 70s
  • Rain chances – About a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon hours with a 20 percent chance overnight.

Independence Day

  • High temperature – Mid-90s in most parts of the Bay area
  • Low temperature – Upper 70s
  • Rain chances – About a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon hours with a 30 percent chance overnight.

Sunday

  • High temperature – Around 90 in much of the Bay area
  • Low temperature – Upper 70s
  • Rain chances – A 60 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms is expected throughout the afternoon and evening hours in much of the region.

Forecasters warn that some of the storms that develop could produce locally heavy rain, lots of lighting and hail up to 1-inch in diameter, according to the agency’s Hazardous Weather Outlook report.

Monday is expected to bring highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with strong storm chances yet again.
