Lightning Sets Tampa Apartment Building On Fire

TAMPA, FL — A fire at an apartment at The Park at Orvieto Apartments, 2021 Blue Rock Drive, in the university area of Tampa, Monday afternoon is being blamed on a lightning strike, said Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

Crews arrived at 4:53 p.m. to find light smoke coming from the roof. They entered through an apartment below the fire and used an attic ladder to find the flames. They then used pressurized water extinguishers to put out the fire without causing significant water damage to the apartment.

Firefighter made sure the fire was out using thermal imaging cameras to verify there were no other hot spots.

All residents got out of the building safely and there were no injuries.
