Man Arrested After Brandon Bank Robbery, HCSO Says

A career criminal with robbery convictions dating back to the 1980s was arrested for robbing a Brandon bank, Hillsborough sheriff said.

BRANDON, FL — A 59-year-old Gibsonton man was arrested Wednesday after robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Brandon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Deputies responded to a robbery in progress at the bank, located at 204 S. Kings Ave., around noon.

A man reportedly handed a teller a note demanding money before fleeing on foot, the sheriff’s office said.

While searching the area, detectives spotted a man matching the suspect's description near Woodberry Road and Berry Lake Drive.

He was identified as Everett Jones, 59, and taken into custody on an active felony warrant for failure of a career offender to register or provide information, the sheriff’s office said.

During an interview with detectives, Jones admitted to the robbery, according to HCSO. He now faces an additional charge of robbery.

Jones has previous robbery convictions dating to 1984, 2005 and 2015.

"For four decades, this man has made a career out of robbery, and he's tried it again," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Our detectives tracked him down, and this man's reign of robbery is now over."
