Man Jumps Into Bay After Being Accused Of Stealing Woman's Wallet

Tampa police apprehended a man accused of robbing a woman Saturday morning and then jumping into the bay to get away from police.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa police aviation, marine and dive patrols helped catch a man accused of robbing a woman Saturday morning at a hotel on North Westshore Boulevard and then jumping into the bay to get away.

According to police, around 8 a.m., a man snatched the woman's wallet and then ran to Cypress Pointe Beach where officers located him.

To avoid arrest, the man, identified as Dewayne Dean, 32, jumped into the water and swam about 200 feet from the shore, where he was apprehended by police marine and dive teens.
