Mother's Day Weekend Weather: Spring's Last Hurrah

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area the weekend of May 6-8.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents hoping for a mild, sunny Mother’s Day weekend are in luck. Forecasters anticipate nothing but sunshine and blue skies over the next few days.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday will kick things off with the mildest conditions of the weekend. The day is expected to deliver plenty of sunshine and a high only in the mid- to upper 70s in much of the Tampa Bay area.

A mostly clear Friday night with a low around 61 degrees should provide for great viewing of the lingering Eta Aquarids meteor shower. Although the shower reached its peak earlier in the week, sightings of stray meteors are possible through the end of the month.

Mother’s Day Sunday should deliver some great beach weather. Forecasters anticipate the day’s high will be the warmest of the weekend, around 85 degrees. Overnight lows will only drop into the upper 60s, but mostly clear conditions are expected.

While storms are not a part of the forecast, meteorologists are warning that rip current conditions are possible along Tampa Bay area shores Friday. A dry air mass is also creating an elevated fire risk courtesy of humidity levels that are expected to only reach about 35 percent over the next few days. While conditions aren't expected to be critical, folks may want to take care with open flames.

The workweek is expected to start off as a continuation of the nice conditions felt over the weekend. Temperatures, however, should climb a bit closer to the 90-degree mark. As of Friday, rain was not in the forecast in the early part of next week.
