New Tampa Museum Of Art Exhibit Focuses On Women In Ancient Times
Explore the ancient world through the depictions of goddesses, heroines and everyday women at The Tampa Museum of Art.
TAMPA, FL — Explore the ancient world through the depictions of goddesses, heroines, mythological characters and everyday women when The Tampa Museum of Art opens its newest exhibition, "HerStory: Stories of Ancient Heroines and Everyday Women."
Sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, the exhibition explores the story heroines and everyday women in the museum's collection of classical antiquities that speak to the role of women in the ancient world, their myths and stories, from Aphrodite and Athena to Amazon warriors to women of the everyday.
“There is nothing quite like this outstanding exhibition 'HerStory,' part of one of North America’s
great collections of ancient art and certainly the most celebrated ancient art collections in the
southeastern United States,” said Michael Tomor, the Penny and Jeff Vinik executive director of the Tampa Museum of Art. “It brings a fresh new perspective from our amazing education team, Brittny Bevel and Kessanda Abel, who are both fluent in the stories told through the museum’s Ancient Greek and Roman Collection.”

"HerStory" will be on view through Jan. 9, 2022, and visitors and members can look forward to
an accompanying series of educational offerings, both virtual and in-person, throughout the exhibition’s 18-month run.
This year, the Tampa Museum of Art is celebrating its 100th anniversary, while women throughout the country celebrate 100 years since the adoption of the 19th amendment to the U.S.
Constitution that guaranteed a woman’s right to vote.

To commemorate this historic milestone, part of the Tampa Museum of Art’s centennial year exhibitions will focus on the achievements of women in the arts.
The Tampa Museum of Art reopened to the public and resumed its regular hours on June 1. The
museum will continue to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocols with physical distancing, capacity limits at the museum and requiring face masks be worn by all staff and guests.
Visitors are encouraged to plan their visits before their arrival by going to museum website,purchasing admission tickets in advance and reading the comprehensive safety plan to know what to expect during their visit.
Founded in 1920, the Tampa Museum of Art houses one of the largest Greek and Roman antiquities collections in the southeastern United States. With a 14,000 square-foot LED installation of Leo Villareal’s Sky (Tampa) illuminating the south façade and the
museum’s 23-foot-tall cast-iron sculpture Laura with Bun by Jaume Plensa silhouetted in front of the north façade, the Tampa Museum of Art stands as an iconic landmark of downtown Tampa.
New online programs add to the year-round creative classes offered on-site and at various
locations throughout Hillsborough County.
The Tampa Museum of Art, 120 W. Gasparilla Plaza, is open seven days a week, Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
