Officer Identified in Sunday Shooting

He is a six-year patrol veteran at the Tampa Police Department.

The Tampa Police Department has identified the officer who fired back at and hit an armed robbery suspect on Sunday.

Officer Ronald Neipert, 29, is on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, the Tampa Police Department’s Homicide Shoot Team and the agency’s Internal Affairs Bureau.

Neipert is a six-year patrol veteran. Prior to that, he worked two years as a dispatcher and two years as a Community Service Officer.

The shooting in question occurred early Sunday morning at the Tampa Park Apartments, 1015 Lily White Court. Police received a 911 call about an armed robbery around 1 a.m. Sunday. When Neipert arrived, the robbery suspect fired on him twice.

Neipert shot the man at least once, police said in an email to media.

John C. Carr Jr. was taken to Tampa General Hospital. He remained there in serious condition following a second surgery on Sunday afternoon, an email from the police department said.

He faces a number of charges upon release.
