Photos: 'Hit-And-Swim' Crash Results in Arrest
A teenage boy has been charged in the Tampa wreck.
A 17-year-old Tampa boy faces several charges after police say ran his car into a swimming pool moments after a hit-and-run crash.
The incident began to unfold Wednesday evening when the Tampa Police Department says the teen struck an occupied vehicle at the corner of North Ola and Country Club. He then fled that crash scene, “drove in a reckless manner, and lost control of his vehicle,” an email to media from the agency stated. The teen’s car then crashed into a privacy fence, went through a screen enclosure and landed in a backyard pool at a home in the 10500 block of North Otis Avenue.
The teen was able to escape the submerged vehicle uninjured, police reported. He wasn’t, however, able to escape the consequences. Police have charged him with two counts of reckless driving and for leaving the scene of an accident.

Tampa Police divers had to respond to the home to help remove the car from the pool. All told, police estimate the damage at $30,000.
“I guess we can reclassify this offense from a Hit and Run to a ‘Hit and Swim,’ ” Tampa Police noted on the agency’s Facebook page.
