Pirates Plunder AdventHealth Tampa, Bringing Smiles To Patients
Instead of plundering treasures, the pirates distributed them to patients.
TAMPA, FL — A band of pirates invaded AventHealth Tampa hospital this week, but instead of plundering treasures, the pirates distributed them to patients throughout the pediatric inpatient, obstetrics, labor and delivery and pediatrics emergency room units.
The hospital's own Dr. James Von Thron, a member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, which hosts Tampa Gasparilla Parade of Pirates each year, smuggled members of the krewe into the hospital so patients could enjoy some of the festivities enjoyed by thousands of people each year.
Greeting them with a hearty "Argh," Von Thron's merry mercenaries distributed beads, coloring books and stuffed parrots to the patients.
