Power Restored To Most Homes In Tampa Bay As Potential Cyclone Nears

After a power outage involving more than 2,000 customers earlier Friday morning, TECO said power has been restored to all but 624 homes.

(National Hurricane Center said Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 is expected to bring 1 to 3 feet of storm surge to the west coast.)

TAMPA, FL — After a power outage involving more than 2,000 customers earlier Friday morning, Tampa Electric Co.said power has been restored to all but 624 homes.

However, TECO, Florida Power and other power companies along both coasts of Florida say they're gearing up for a busy weekend as Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 moves closer to the state, bringing heavy rainfall and possible flooding to south Florida on Friday and Saturday.

Florida Power & Light Co. is still reporting 805 customers without power in Manatee County.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami has issued a tropical storm watch for the Florida peninsula south of the middle of Longboat Key including all the Florida Keys and for the east coast of the Florida peninsula south of the Volusia and Brevard County lines, including Lake Okeechobee.
