TAMPA, FL — The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County issued a rabies alert for the area surrounding Nobb Oak Avenue in Tampa after a short-haired brown and white tabby cat tested positive for rabies on June 13.
All residents and visitors in Hillsborough County should be aware that rabies is present in the wild animal population, and domestic animals are at risk if not vaccinated.
The Hillsborough County Department of Health is asking people to maintain a heightened awareness.

Alerts are designed to increase awareness. This rabies alert is for 60 days. The center of the rabies alert is at Nobb Oak Avenue, Tampa, and is bounded by County Line Road to the north, Kinnan Street to the east, Cross Creek Boulevard to the south and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to the west.
Rabies is a disease of the nervous system and is fatal to warm-blooded animals and humans. The only treatment for human exposure to rabies is rabies-specific immune globulin and rabies immunization.
