Rain Headed Tampa Bay's Way

A slow-moving storm system is expected to arrive in the region in the overnight hours Tuesday and stick around for a few days.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents will want to keep their umbrellas handy over the next few days.

The National Weather Service is anticipating a slow-moving system will make its way into the region in the overnight hours Tuesday. That “big area of clouds and showers” is expected to stick around through Thursday, according to weather service meteorologist Tom Dougherty.

Rain chances Tuesday night are anticipated at 50 percent in much of the region with an overnight low around 62 degrees. The chance for showers remains around 90 percent in the day and overnight hours Wednesday. That day’s high should reach about 70 degrees with a low in the lower 60s.

Thursday kicks off with a 70 percent chance of showers and a high in the upper 60s. Rain chances dwindle to about 20 percent in the overnight hours Thursday.

While thunderstorms are possible as the system makes its way through Tampa Bay, forecasters say the threat of severe weather is fairly low and winds are expected to be pretty light.

Conditions are expected to clear out by Friday when sunny weather is anticipated to make a return. The day’s high should reach the low to mid-60s in much of Tampa Bay with an overnight low in the upper 40s.
