Hurricane Irma: Rays-Yankees Series Next Week Moved To New York

The three-game series will actually be played at Citi Field, home of the Mets. Yankee Stadium was already booked.

With Hurricane Irma taking aim right at Florida and no one being able to predict what kind of damage will be done, Major League Baseball is moving next week's Tampa Bay Rays-New York Series out of Florida. The three-game series is being moved to Citi Field in New York, the home of the Mets.

Yankee Stadium was not an option because of events that had already been booked. The New York City Football Club has an upcoming game and on Monday and Tuesday and the stadium hosts an annual food festival.

The Rays will be considered the home team for the series.

The two teams meet again later this month when Tampa again travels to New York. For that series, though, they will be playing at Yankee Stadium.

The irony is that Tampa had just opened Tropicana Field for the Houston Astros who were displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
