Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon Crosswalk Installed In Ybor City
When a pedestrian wants to cross the street, he or she pushes the button, and the beacon flashes, alerting drivers.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa City Council Chairman Joseph Citro and the Columbia Restaurant Group joined city staff last week to reveal the enhanced crosswalk with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon near the Casa Santo Stefano restaurant in Historic Ybor City.
Citro called the city's latest Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon a great example of a public-private partnership that will help improve safety with a push of a button.
The beacons have pedestrian-activated buttons. When a pedestrian wants to cross the street, he or she pushes the button, and the beacon flashes, alerting drivers that there’s a pedestrian present.

"A project like this, one with a high-visibility crosswalk and flashing beacons along 22nd Street in Historic Ybor City, shows what is possible in terms of making conditions safer for all road users," said Citro. “We all deserve to be able to move around our communities safely, and prioritizing changes like these can help us meet our Vision Zero goal of getting to zero deaths and serious injuries on our roadways."
These enhanced crossings support the city of Tampa’s Vision Zero mission, eliminating all traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries, which is a key facet of Mayor Jane Castor’s Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow initiatives.
