I was recently invited to sample Lee Roy Selmon’s new summer menu and experience what the restaurant had to offer my family. We had never dined there before so were all looking forward to checking it out!
As we walked in, we were greeted with open arms by a very warm and friendly staff. They were excited for us to join them and took great care of us. Here is some quick background information in case you are not familiar with Lee Roy Selmon’s.
“With delicious fire-grilled favorites and bold original specialties, a fun-filled atmosphere and hands-down, the friendliest staff, Lee Roy Selmon’s has redefined what a sports restaurant should be. Come join us in South Tampa, New Tampa, Brandon, Sarasota, Bradenton, Ft. Myers, St. Petersburg, and Palm Harbor.” The restaurant is of course named after Lee Roy Selmon, the first Tampa Bay Buccaneer enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Now it was time to eat! We were all starving and it seemed we had come to the right place. We were offered a bunch of samples from the menu, such as the bacon and cheese grits and the cornbread casserole, which my four year old could not get enough of! When I told him about the grits, his response was, “Mom, kiss my grits”. Got to love him! We also ordered soft pretzels with a beer cheese sauce that was delicious! The kids really liked the pretzels! We also asked for the Back Country Nachos, minus the meat. It was scrumptious and I really liked the pickled okra on top. Believe it or not, so did my 16 month old. The manager was nice enough to bring my husband a portion of their nachos with buffalo chicken on top, which he said was out of this world. We had already had so much food and there was more on the way.
The kids all had a menu for themselves and were given crayons, which is always a good thing to keep them occupied. My oldest son ordered chicken fingers and it was mac n’ cheese for my four year old and 16 month old. My four year old asked if it was the same as we have at home and it turned out they serve it right from the box. Some might wonder why they don’t make their own from scratch but to be honest, my kids, and probably a lot of others, like what they are used to at home, so points scored there!

My husband ordered their new Summer Smokin’ Bowls. He chose the smoked shrimp, which comes with Selmon’s Rice, tomatoes, corn and lettuce mixed with Hickory Chipotle sauce and topped with fresh cilantro, all for only $9.99. I decided on the cedar planked salmon, and appreciated that they had so many fish options for those that might not eat or want meat, like me. The menu was huge and offered everything from margherita pesto flatbread to the chopped chicken salad to burgers and more. It’s really nice to see healthy options on their menu since you typically think of fried food when you come to a sports restaurant/bar. The manager was telling me that it was very important to them to offer healthy alternatives, which was perfect for me since I am a very healthy eater. If you are a meat eater, they have a very large selection, such as the Mile High Pulled Pork Sandwhich, which the menu describes as “Tender mouth-watering pulled pork piled high on a toasted handmade roll with dill pickles and drizzled with Selmon’s House sauce. Try it Carolina style (topped with classic coleslaw) for a bold twist”. They really do have something for everyone on their menu!
As you can see from the pictures, we had a lot to take home, which made for a perfect lunch the next day. Even so, we of course had to try dessert. My husband and I were stuffed so we chose the best dessert for the little ones, which of course was the sundae. I will let you see for yourself if it was a hit:
As we were paying for the check, we were educated about Lee Roy Selmon’s free reward program, which sounded great. I love when a business rewards you for being a loyal customer!
We also learned that on Mondays, Lee Roy Selmon’s offers the “kids eat free” deal! ”One child (age 10 and under) can eat free every Monday throughout the summer with the purchase of one adult entrée and a drink. The entree must be valued at least $9.99 and alcoholic beverages are excluded” How awesome is that?
The time had come to say our goodbyes and roll ourselves out of Lee Roy Selmon’s. We had such a fun time and I want to thank our wonderful waitress, Jessica, who was friendly, patient, knowledgeable, accommodating, and fun, as well as Sean Wetherington, the Managing Partner of Lee Roy Selmon’s, who always made sure we were enjoying ourselves.
They both took such great care of our family and really made our dinner a fun experience, filled with great food and a wonderful atmosphere.
Thanks Lee Roy Selmon’s! See you soon.
