South Tampa Apartment Fire Sends 1 to the Hospital

The blaze broke out this morning, leaving two people without a home.

A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized following a Friday morning fire at the Sevilla Apartments.

The blaze at 4507 W. McElroy Ave. broke Friday morning with a call for help going out around 9 a.m. When crews from Tampa Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from a second-floor home, an email to media said.

Crews had the flames out by 9:17 a.m., the email said. Two residents in the home, a 46-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were able to escape without injuries. A 26-year-old woman who was in the area of the building was to be taken to a local hospital. It is unclear how she was injured, the Jason Penny, fire rescue’s spokesman, said she is in stable condition. None of the victims have been identified by authorities.

While the investigation continues, the Red Cross has been contacted to assist the residents who have lost their home.
