Attack On Jogger: Video Of Suspect Released
A woman was struck in the head during the Tuesday morning attack. A reward is now being offered and police are urging caution.
TAMPA, FL — As Tampa Police Officers continue their search for a suspect wanted in connection with a Tuesday attack on a female jogger near Burns Park, the agency is warning others to be cautious.
The attack in question occurred around 6:10 a.m. in the area of Hills and South Howard avenues. According to police, the woman stopped near Burns Park to give her dog a chance to rest. During that break, she was approached by a man who struck her in the head with a blunt object.
“The victim was able to run away from the suspect and call for help,” the agency wrote in an email to media. The man ran south on Howard Avenue, police said. Whether his motive was robbery or something else remains unclear, police say.

The man wanted in connection with the attack is described as a white male in his 20s. He stands about 5 feet, 9 inches and weighs and estimated 160 pounds. The man has short, dark hair that is curly. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, gym shorts and no shoes. A $3,000 reward is being offered in the case. The man faces aggravated battery charges, police say.
Police on Thursday afternoon released a video shot from a business surveillance camera on South Howard Avenue near where the attack occurred. The man pictured, police say, matches the suspect description given by the victim.

While police are patrolling the area where the attack occurred and continue to search for the suspect, the agency is asking folks to take extra care. Police offer these tips for joggers and walkers when they are out:
- Avoid dark, wooded places or areas that make you feel uncomfortable
- Trust your gut
- Exercise with a partner for safety
- Be mindful of surroundngs
- Carry a cellphone
- Carry a whistle or noisemaker and be sure to wear reflective materials at night

No further information about Tuesday's attack is being released, including the victim's name and the extent of any injuries she may have suffered.
