St. Pat's Day: Here's Who's Getting On The Green In Tampa Bay

Here are some places around Tampa Bay with plenty of green beer, corned beef and cabbage and jiggy live music.

TAMPA BAY, FL — Before we don our green garb and heft our pints of Guinness, let's prepare for St. Patrick's Day with a review of some common Gaelic expressions.

"Sláinte!" is a toast that literally means "health."

“Sláinte chugat" means “Good health to you.”

"Slán agus beannacht leat (slawn ogg-us ban-ocked lyat)" means “Goodbye and blessings with you.”

"Erin (or Erinn) go braugh" means "Irish forever."

"Sure and begorrah" literally means "Sure by God" but is used to indicate "'Tis a grand day to be alive."

"Gread leat" means "Go away."

The most famous Irish blessing is often found framed on the walls of Irish pubs:

Here are some St. Patrick's Day celebration scheduled for Thursday, March 17, into the weekend.

St. Pat's At American Social

American Social, 601 S. Harbour Island Blvd., Tampa, will hold a weeklong party with green beer all week and special events each day.

  • A Shamrock and Roll party with music by DJ A-Train from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday, March 17.
  • The St. Patrick’s Day Silent Disco party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, March 18.

St. Patrick's At The Lucky Dill

The Lucky Dill, 33180 U.S. 19 N, Palm Harbor, will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with daily Irish music, games and Irish dishes from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Thursday:
1 to 2 p.m. – Tampa Bay Highland Dancers
Noon to 1 p.m. – Bagpipes
1 to 10 p.m.– DJ Ed with Irish classics and favorite hits

Little Explorers, 35225 U.S. 19, Palm Harbor, will host a St. Patrick's Day party for kids in one-hour time slots from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, featuring crafts, a balloon drop and games. The evening session at 5:30 p.m. will also include pizza and juice.

Cabbage And Corn Hole

Swigwam Beach Bar, 336 Corey Ave., St. Pete Beach, will host its 12th annual St. Patrick's Day Party Thursday starting at 10 a.m.

Bring your lawn chair for an all-day street party with corned beef and cabbage by Grillin & Chillin, music and corn hole games.

Music will be provided by the Sandy Bottom Boys from 1 to 4 p.m. and the Beach Rats from 5 to 9 p.m.

Join the crew at Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson, 10525 49th St. N, Clearwater, for a free motorcycle ride to the St. Patrick’s Day party at O’Keefe’s, 1219 S Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater, at 10:30 a.m. March 17. Then return to Bert's at 7 p.m. to see Soul Circus Cowboys perform on the pavilion.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at O'Keefe's Tavern, 1219 S Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater, with live bands, bagpipers, drummers, Irish dancers, corned beef and cabbage, green beer, Guinness and green shooter specials Thursday from noon to 11 p.m. The Irish Buskers will perform from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the Bearded Brothers Band will hit the stage at 8 p.m. In between, the Dunedin Bagpipes and the Gilleoghan Irish Dancers will perform. There will be 50 percent off all Irish drinks from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. including Irish coffee, Green Tea, Pickleback, Irish whiskey and Hooligan shots.
There will be soccer watch parties:

  • Aston Villa vs. Arsenal at 8:30 a.m.
  • Norwich City vs. Chelsea at 11 a.m.
  • Man City vs. Brighton & Hove Albion at 11 a.m.

The Black Velvet Band will perform from 1 to 4 p.m.
Bagpipers will perform from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
