Steamy Summertime Weather in Store for Tampa Bay

Scattered thunderstorms are strong possibilities daily in the Tampa Bay area as the workweek continues.

Tampa Bay area residents are in for a typical week of summertime weather. That means highs in the 90s and a risk for scattered thunderstorms daily.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday sets the tone for much of the week with mostly sunny conditions in the first part of the day. The high should reach the mid-90s with thunderstorm chances moving in during the afternoon hours. Those storm chances stick around into the overnight hours when the low is expected to drop into the upper 70s.

Tuesday is anticipated to be a near repeat of Monday except thunderstorm chances are a bit stronger heading into the afternoon hours. Forecasters say there’s a 60 percent chance for storms in the afternoon and evening hours. The overnight low should fall again into the upper 70s.

Wednesday is once again anticipated to bring a high in the low to mid-90s with thunderstorm chances gradually building throughout the day in much of the region. There’s a 50 percent chance for storms in the afternoon hours and about a 30 percent chance for scattered storms overnight. The evening low is expected to fall into the upper 70s.

Thursday should bring a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in the daytime hours, according to forecasters. The day’s high is expected to reach the low 90s. Storm chances stick around in the evening at 30 percent with an overnight low around 77 degrees anticipated. Friday is expected to be a near repeat of Thursday.

Organized severe weather is not anticipated this week, but forecasters do warn daily scattered afternoon and evening storms could wreak a little havoc. Residents are warned of the potential for strong, gusty winds, locally heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes.
