  1. Hillsborough County is the first county in Florida to raise the Juneteenth flag and recognize the federal holiday. The community gathered on Thursday afternoon to commemorate the occasion and included songs from the Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition Community Choir. Juneteenth is the day in U.S. history back in 1865 when Union soldiers told enslaved Black Americans in Texas they had been freed. (Tampa Patch)
  2. Hillsborough County Public Schools Superintendent Addison Davis is resigning from office after 39 months in office. His exit is planned for July 2023. Davis led the school district during the COVID-19 pandemic and amid tense battles at school boards as well record teacher vacancies. However, his tenure boosted the graduation rate in the region.   3. Foxtail Coffee Co. has opened in Temple Terrace as the coffee chain continues its expansion in the region. The official opening is at 7201 E Fletcher Ave. near I-75 on June 17. The opening follows a Carrollwood shop opening. (That's So Tampa)
  4. A Florida black bear was spotted at the Tampa International Airport on Tuesday, as black bear sightings increase around the state. The bear was trapped and relocated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) on Wednesday. The FWC believes it could be the same bear that was seen in Carrollwood last month.   5. Tampa City Council has approved interim Chief Lee Bercaw as the new Tampa Police chief. Bercaw joined Tampa Police in 1997 was selected by City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor for the job. The Tampa Police Union praised the performance of Bercaw as the interim chief. The vote was not expected to be controversial. (Bay News 9)
