Tampa Bay, FL — The long weekend is over and it’s time for many people in the Tampa Bay area to get back to work. The good news is there’s only a short workweek ahead.

This week is expected to be a scorcher, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday is expected to kick things off with a high around 92 degrees in much of the Tampa Bay area. The heat index values, however, could climb as high as 102, according to the weather service. There’s also a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms heading into the afternoon hours. Those storm chances continue into the overnight hours when the low should drop to the upper 70s.
A 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms returns on Wednesday. Those storms are expected to arrive mainly after 11 a.m. The day’s high is anticipated to reach about 93 degrees in parts of Tampa Bay with a heat index again around 102.

Forecasters expect conditions to clear out overnight on Wednesday. Partly cloudy skies are anticipated with a low again in the upper 70s. Thursday is expected to be a near repeat of Wednesday. The overnight conditions, however, are anticipated to be mostly clear.
Friday arrives with a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms in the forecast. The day’s high is expected to reach about 92 degrees. Partly cloudy conditions roll in for the nighttime hours when the low should once again drop into the upper 70s.
Severe weather isn’t in the forecast this week, but the weather service does warn storms that develop could bring locally heavy rain, strong winds and frequent lightning strikes.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to stick around into the weekend with daily highs in the low 90s.
