Tampa Bay Heat Shatters Records

The trend may continue for a few more days.

The heat wave that’s been delivering summertime temperatures to the Tampa Bay area has shattered some long-standing records while threatening to stick around for a few more days.

Tampa witnessed a high temperature Wednesday of 92 degrees, readily beating out the area’s previous record high of 90 set back in 1961. That sweltering thermometer reading also shattered the hottest day on record for any day in November, set back on Nov. 1, 2006, at 90 degrees.

Another record-breaking day or two may be on the way. Thursday’s high is forecast to climb to 91, according to The Weather Channel. Folks at the National Weather Service are a little more conservative in their outlook, setting their anticipated high at 90. Either way, the record of 88 for Nov. 5, set in 1972, is likely to fall.

Friday should bring more of the same with a high around 90 anticipated.

The weekend is hoped to bring some relief as a cold front is anticipated to move into the area. Forecasters at The Weather Channel, however, don’t anticipate temperatures to drop all that much. They’re expecting temperatures to fall into the mid-80s by Sunday with that trend continuing through next week.
