Tampa Bay Weather: Strong Storms, Torrential Rain Possible

Forecasters say the Tampa Bay area is in for a hot week ahead with plenty of storm chances.

Tampa Bay, FL — Tampa Bay area residents might want to dress for heat and keep their umbrellas handy as the workweek progresses.

According to the National Weather Service, the week ahead will be another steamy one with daily highs in the 90s and heat index values once again reaching the 100s.

Thunderstorm chances are also present throughout the week. While no organized severe weather is anticipated, forecasters do warn storm activity may increase in coverage as the week progresses. Some of those storms may be strong with “small hail, strong wind gusts, torrential rainfall and frequent lightning,” the weather service warned in its Hazardous Weather Outlook report Monday.

Monday kicks off the workweek with a high in the mid-90s anticipated in much of the region. The heat index value is expected to reach the low 100s with a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms in the daytime hours. Those storm chances linger into the evening hours when the low should drop into the upper 70s.

Tuesday arrives with another high anticipated in the low-90s. A 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms is anticipated, mainly after 2 p.m. Storm chances drop to about 30 percent in the evening hours with a low in the upper 70s expected. Mostly cloudy conditions are likely after storms clear out.

Wednesday is expected to bring a high around 92 degrees in much of the region with storm chances gradually increasing heading into the afternoon hours. Forecasters say there’s a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon hours, followed by a 30 percent chance overnight. The evening’s low should fall into the upper 70s.

Thursday and Friday are both expected to deliver highs in the low 90s with about a 50 percent chance for scattered thunderstorms in the daytime hours. Storm chances diminish heading into the evening hours when the low should drop to the upper 70s both nights.
