Tampa Bay Workweek Weather: Heat Index at 100-Plus

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area in the week ahead.

TAMPA BAY, FL — Tampa Bay area residents with big outdoor plans this week might want to brace for uncomfortable conditions. With heat indexes anticipated to climb past the 100-degree mark and thunderstorms possible most days, outside conditions are likely to be less than hospitable especially in the afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday should kick things off with a bright, sunny start. The day’s high is expected to climb to about 94 degrees with a heat index of 104 anticipated in much of the region. While thunderstorms are possible heading into the afternoon hours, there’s only a 20 percent chance of isolated storms to cool things off.

Storm chances persist heading into the overnight hours Monday. Forecasters, however, say storms should clear out as the night progresses. A low in the upper 70s is anticipated.

Storm chances increase to 50 percent during the day and evening hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Forecasters say storms those days should be scattered. Highs in the middle to end of the workweek are expected to climb into the low 90s with overnight lows in the upper 70s.

Organized severe weather isn’t anticipated throughout the workweek, but that doesn’t mean daily thunderstorms won’t pack a punch. Forecasters warn that storms that develop could deliver locally heavy rain, strong winds and the potential for frequent lighting.

As of Monday, forecasters expected the weekend to deliver similar conditions to the tail end of the week with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely both Saturday and Sunday. Daily highs should once again climb into the low 90s.
