Attention TPA Fliers And Guests: Masks Are Still Mandatory While Traveling

TAMPA, FL — Tampa International Airport is reminding all passengers and guests that face coverings continue to be required by federal mandate during travel despite recent CDC changes.

In recent weeks, TPA has seen an increase in the number of passengers and guests who are not wearing face coverings at the airport, which is in violation of the Transportation Security Administration's mandate. Face coverings are required while at the airport, including all trains, shuttles and terminal facilities, and while flying.

TPA's guest services team distributes between 200 and 300 face masks per day to guests who need them. This number has gone up significantly since the Centers for Disease Control changed its recommendation to allow vaccinated people to resume activities without wearing masks or physical distancing in many outdoor and indoor settings.

"We are currently spending considerable time and resources reminding people to follow the federal mask mandate," said Adam Bouchard, TPA's vice president of operations. "We appreciate everyone's efforts to be in compliance with the mask mandate and to ensure the health and safety of all our passengers, guests and employees."
