Tampa Museum Showcases Visionary Woman Photographers

Since photography's inception in the mid-19th century, women have stood among its artistic and technological pioneers

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Museum of Art is continuing its 100th anniversary celebration with an exhibit focusing on women photographers titled "Modern Women: Modern Vision" from the Bank of America Collection Feb. 20 through May 24.

Since photography’s inception in the mid-19th century, women have stood among its artistic and technological pioneers. Modern Women: Modern Vision presents more than 100 photographic images from the Bank of America Collection by leading artists of the 20th and early 21st centuries.

“This exhibition is important because it highlights the achievements of women photographers and how they have contributed to our understanding of photography as an art form," said Joanna Robotham, curator of modern and contemporary art. "Moreover, many of the photographers pioneered new directions and new narratives in photography. I am excited for the Tampa Museum of Art to host this exhibition as photography is a cornerstone of our collection and the show emphasizes ideas that I have explored in past exhibitions, as well concepts I hope to develop in future projects. We are pleased to work with Bank of America and share with our visitors their significant collection of 20th- and 21st-century photography.”
