Tampa Police Arrest 40 People During Saturday's Civil Unrest

More than 40 people were arrested Saturday night during the protest-related unrest on charges ranging from burglary to rioting.

TAMPA, FL — Forty people were arrested Saturday night during the protest-related unrest on charges ranging from burglary to rioting and carrying concealed firearms.

Most of the arrests were related to damages to 40 businesses along the Hillsborough Avenue, Busch Boulevard and Fowler Avenue corridors including broken doors and windows, looting and fire.

The Mobil gas station on North 30th Street and East Busch Boulevard and the Champs sporting goods store at North 22nd Street and East Fowler Avenue were destroyed by fire. The Saigon Bay restaurant adjoining Champs was severely damaged by fire.

Police also arrested two 15-year-olds, a 16-year-old and three 17-year-olds.
